Today is Thursday...the day before the very last day for submissions to the Fresno Art Museum. After I get off work today, I am off to pick up the frame for my painting. Tomorrow during my lunch, I will be hurrying to the museum to submit my piece. It is titled 'Andru's Pride'. It would be great if everyone could attend the reception and celebration on January 23rd from 5:00 to 7:00 at the museum. I have grand hopes that my piece passes the jurors and will get to hang in the museum. Keep your fingers crossed!!
My grandmother did an oil painting in 1963 that she submitted to the Fresno Fair. It won First Place!! It was then transported to the Fresno Art Museum and was to hang there for a time, along with all the other First Place winners. When it arrived at the museum, it was rejected to hang, as it was painted on wood and not canvas. She was so disappointed.
As a child, she used to take me to the museum quite often to see all the art. She would often say, 'it is a dream of mine to have one of my paintings hang in here'. She died some years back, never once having one of her pieces hang in the museum. Should mine make it to hang, I dedicate it to her...Ms. Mary Leona House...without her, I would have no talent.
PS...just a note I think is important...the piece she did in 1963 was a portrait of what my mom dreamed her daughter would look like at about the age of five. The piece's title is 'A Mother's Dream'. I am that daughter, Mom was pregnant with me at the time the painting was done, and yes, I looked a lot like that painting when I was about five. That painting was the image of a mother's dream painted by the mother's mother. And, the child painted by the artist would become an artist when she grew up. A wonderful circle, if you ask me.
I love you and Happy Marti Gras Grandma!!
