Artists of the Studio

The moment you walk into the Chris Sorensen's, you can feel that you are in a special place. One way or another, about 20 of us now call the Sorensen gallery and/or studio our creative place, with Chris. On Thursday night, please join me in celebrating the Artists of the Studio. Each artist has work in the exhibit, and space somewhere in the studio or back gallery to create or show work. Chris is such a creative inspiration and generous man, come by and visit with him as you view our latest…

Art across the country...

I'm fortunate to be able to spend some time visiting my family in various locations this summer. The Denver and Boulder CO art scenes are pretty neat, with their own "arthop" on Friday nights. I got to visit the gallery in Denver that is hosting one of the juried shows advertised on our site (Abecedarian Gallery). The owner was really nice and the current exhibit looked great. I suggest looking into it. One of the other artists that I visited was working on a large public art piece for the City… Continue

Please join me tomorrow night

I'm having an artist's reception tomorrow night at dcac (downtown community arts collective) from 5 to 8 and would love for fellow artists and art enthusiasts to come and enjoy. The dcac gallery is as amazing as the organization. I'm really proud of my work and how beautiful it looks in the space, all 30+ pieces. DJ Mr Leonard will be providing music and Patty Ochinero will be catering.

During ArtHop, I haven't been able to go see other's work, or share mine... that's why I'm throwing this… Continue

I can't believe November is almost done...

It's been quite a year for me as an artist. Goals set and met and reset, shows hung, pieces completed, my portfolio finally in a book... and the list goes on. Hanging Nudes in November was a great experience... so much wonderful art to work with, and a great large space. This was my 2nd year hanging the show... hopefully I'll keep doing it. I also participated in a lot of shows this year. Quady, my solo show at La Luna Loca, the Pink show, Artists of the Studio at Chris', Sculpture by the Sea… Continue

Getting Nude on Saturday

I'm really getting excited now! Saturday we'll be accepting entries at Chris Sorensen's for the 6th annual Nudes in November. I've heard from several out of town artists who are bringing work, from as far away as Ventura! This is going to be a great show, and I feel the anticipation building... I hope we have enough wall space. And then there's the juroring.... it's so hard to tell artists that their work wasn't accepted, even though they paid a $20 entry fee. Some people get angry with me,… Continue

Getting ready for a show... nude.

It's almost time... October is ending...and Nudes in November is almost here. I'm part of the Chris Sorensen Studio, and this is my second year curating the Nudes show. It's really exciting! One of my favorite parts is when artists bring in their work (this year it's on the 25th). Seeing each artists impression of the human figure is inspiring. Most portray beauty, others... well, there aren't ever many that are negative, thankfully.

I've always loved figurative work. While in… Continue
