From the Central Valley Blues Society Newsletter today.

"Hello Blues Lovers, I have some sad news to report on a valley blues legend. Hosea Leavy "Grandaddy of The Blues" Passed away. I know the blues community will be saddened by this loss. Our prayers go out to him and his family.
As you may have heard Hosea was one the original line up at the Fresno Delta Blues Festival this Sat. Because of his passing the festival will be dedicated in his Honor."

Hosea Leavy has been an inspiration to me for decades. I spent a great deal of effort making my music smoother and slicker. His rawness and authenticity made me go back and rough up my sound in search of my own rawness.

Also from the CVBS newletter )Thanks Don Heflin!)

Surprised and glad to see the photo of Hosea I took! He didn't bring his own guitar to the photo shoot, on my front porch, so I grabbed one of my vintage guitars, which was not one he would have used, but it was just for the photo, which has been used widely.

The picture is of Hosea Levy, one of the West Fresno Blues Masters. Thank you Chris Millar for preserving his sounds and those of the late Harmonica Slim. The Blues is America's Music.
