Patrick Contreras' versatile electric violin sound can only be described as "eclectic" because of his innovative style. He is often described as "The Jimi Hendrix of Violin".His 2007 debut album “American Gypsy” is a new sound for violin and music, with roots in latin and rock music with influences of jazz, blues, soul, funk, Arabic, Indian, classical, and hip hop. In addition to violin, he plays cello, viola, guitar and piano. The one comment that people consistently make after hearing him for the first time is “I did not know a violin could sound like that!” It is truly an exhilarating experience to attend his concerts. He is only 25 years old, has an incredible musical resume, and is one of Fresno’s finest artists who is on the verge of becoming an international talent.
He has opened and worked with artists such as KT Tunstall, The Horrors, Vanessa Carlton and Hip Hop favorites Digital Underground, E- 40, and Sir Mix A lot; instrumental virtuosos Bela Fleck and Jean Luc Ponty; Classical musicians Josh Groban, Andrea Bocelli, and the Alexander String Quartet; Mexican music heavyweights Mariachi Los Camperos, Mariachi Imperial, Aida Cuevas, and Orestes Vilato; Salsa groups Anthony Blea y Su Charanga, Tito y Son De Cuba, and Poncho Sanchez; and the Cirque De Soleil.
Patrick's talents on the violin have taken him across United States and the world. In 2007 he was an opening act at the House of Blues in Hollywood, Jazz Bakery in Los Angeles, and the Roxy Coca Cola Theater in Atlanta. He also performed at the Knitting Factory in Hollywood, Shobox in Seattle, Bowery Ballroom in New York, Austin Music Hall in Austin, Texas, the Metro Chicago in Chicago, and Central Park Summer Stage in New York and the after party for the Oscar De La Hoya/Floyd Mayweather Jr Bout in Las Vegas. He was also booked at venues in Virginia Beach, Mexico, and in London.
Patrick Contreras is the epitomy of a young musician that truly loves writing and playing music, is dedicated to excellence in his craft, enriches others through teaching, shares his talents with the world, promotes himself and his group with solid entrepreneurial skills, and has a strong commitment to the development of the cultural arts sector of Fresno.

I've had a few places I feel that I can call a musical home in Fresno. Somewhere I feel a slight less prick of insecurity and am free to express myself through my music. Full Circle Brewing, Arte Americas, and lastly The Crossroads. THis might seem like an unlikely choice. Believe it or not this place is turning out to be "the" place to be for music in Fresno. I know we have starline and club fred(audie's olympic), but I dont' think theres a place that has such a vast array of music explored oth… Continue
WEll thanks man! Now you have a name to a face.. yes? It can be a lot to keep track of. Keep up the excellent outreach through your wonderful vibrations! see you playing soon! peace.
Yea! I am excited. Okay so I have to have them done by Feb. It seems like a lot of time but I have to do 15 pieces. So what I want to capture is the essence of you playing, capture the energy and music. If you have pictures of you playing, which I am sure you do, :) I would love to see them, and go from there. I also plan to attend one of your events and take some pics. If there is a certain one you really feels captures what you are about send it to me.
Thanks
Kathryn
Hello Patrick I am doing a series of paintings and I want some of them based on local musicians here in Fresno and was wondering if you would be interested in being immortalized on canvas? :) Please let me know! Check out my website and see the Jazz paintings for the style I will be doing.
Thanks
Kathryn
I just saw that you are scheduled for an event on September 13, so I assume you will not be able to perform for the Shakespeare Festival on that date. Am I correct? Are there any other dates you'd be available for? Let me know.
