I was 13 and I just HAD to learn that great new Simon and Garfunkle song, Sounds of Silence. I traded my Crown Red Sparkle drumset for an acoustic guitar and a Mel Bay Chord Book. I had absolutely no idea what I was getting into. How was I to know the song was way more complicated than most mid 60s pop rock? So I learned the chords to play Sounds of Silence and then discovered there dozens of easier songs that used some of the same chords just fewer.
Years later I learned that all of those songs could be played by ear.
People should not be spending money on the sheet music for a three chord song. The only good reason is to make sure the lyrics are correct.
Tonight begins the Folksinger 101 workshop at the Brick Wall @ JA Photography 2003 N Van Ness Blvd. Call me at 559-307-3610 for info. Bring your acoustic.
