Why in the hell don't Artists call their gigs "Art Sells" instead of "Art shows" if they really desire to sell their art???  Just wondering .....

Any theories out there?

@ R Yeah, art can be seen and not owned for free plus if you go to the right Galleries you can get drunk and munch down goodies!  One such gallery had the cops showing up every Arthop after 10:00 pm to quell the party goers, hehe.

@ M , That's exactly my point if artists secretly want to sell art they should do as you said and stop calling it a "SHOW."

How about a ' Show and Tell, Art Sell.'  Show and tell in elementary school was a high light of the day for some of us.  Rules were that the item to be shown by students had to have a 'educational value' (no toys and teacher's choice) I clearly remember a glass eye being ogled over along with a real knee cap.    I would not want people felling pressured to buy just in order to see Art.  The wonderful thing about a museum, is one is able to enjoy Art, that they could not otherwise afford. Window shopping  can be fun.

Why not have an Art Sell?  Talk about it, organize it, promote it, and do it!

It's a sad day that anyone should starve, artist or not.

So its okay to settle for the status quo of "starving Artist?"

A real job? Does it exist in these times? I would say, "live your dreams.  Follow your passion, strive to bring out the best of every creation."  Forgo monetary goals.

For some artists settling for a little appreciation or praise is enough payback to keep them going!

But what do you tell young artists that would like to make art a career and vocation?  Get a real job?

Perhaps one wants to share with others, that which is in their  he art.  Sharing and showing, for me, is meant for the everyone.  Those that lack sight I encourage them to run touch my sculptures.  Though few able to afford fine art prices, does not mean that they cannot enjoy and appreciate the work.  Art is meant to be shared.  Art is the light under the bush.  Lift it off, and may it shine.
