Arts and Cultural Information in Fresno City and County

Hello everyone,

I hope all is well. We are getting ready for an exciting moment for the Fresno Arts Council and that will be the unveiling of the new corporate website + a revamp of our centralized events calendar for the arts in Fresno County.

Now you might ask why we are sharing this information. We do mainly for two reasons: first, to update you (the arts community) that we as an organization are progressively improving especially in presenting local arts information (both our artists and arts/culture events) to the world; and second, we would like to ask for peer review of the home page mock-ups as well as to let you know that this is the best time to contact us if you would like to be a strategic or media partner of FAC (ie. tourism agencies, foundations, etc., tv/radio stations). It does not cost anything to be a partner, we just have to co-promote each other.

Anyway, here are the 2 mock-ups and please fire away with kudos, constructive criticisms, suggestions, and such... By the way, this will significantly change our workflow when it comes to event submissions (it will be better, I promise), of which I will share more in detail prior to launch.

Cheers...

Update (9/15/2009): The city links on the top of the websites won't be active on launch but will be produced this year. We have to work with each cities to highlight what they are doing for the arts community and place their arts events. If you know anybody who's in the position to talk to us, please refer them to this blog. Thank you so much for participating in this conversation.

FresnoArts.net Main Page

This will replace the page when you go to fresnoarts.net (not my.fresnoarts.net, which will stay)

Notes:

  • The left sidebar is an accordion user interface (so that it will only show one segment at a time (refer to the fresnoartscouncil.org for the example).
  • Advertisement opportunities are available for arts organizations and related businesses/shows only.
  • Pro-bono advertisements are available to one of the ad space on the right sidebar.

FresnoArtsCouncil.org Corporate Page

Tightly integrated with FresnoArts.net platform, the FAC website uses the same data set (artists profile, arts organization, event listing, etc...)

Great job and a lot of work. Thanks. It could be nice to have a place for artist listings/contact/bio information/links to artists' sites, similar to what was discussed about the Fresno County site. I do like the community links. It is nice to know what is going on just a few miles away.

Again thanks for all of your work.

I can't see anything I can add that hasn't already been mentioned. Otherwise, I think it looks great! Thanks for doing this!

Maybe I am not seeing it, but I would like to be able to go in and see a search line for finding a specific artist. The artists could enter their bio, locations, shows, etc. Also, I will appreciate a better way to see what is happening on a specific date.

:) that would be supercalifragilisticexpialidocious...but I'm not sure if that's how you spell it:)

I agree with what they said, for once, I do not have many words, I find this to be supercalitistic. Is that a word, Mary Poppins used it didn't she?
Great job Victor, our man!

I love turquoise ... but on Native American jewelry.

One of the things I like about your site is that you keep it uncluttered, many sites go over board with background images galore and images in every column and space. You keep it basic yet attractive and very readable, ie professional looking! Great job.

Your idea for the community tabs on the first page sounds good ... I think if we can click on a tab that will open up to something resembling the present community main page with all the blogs, comments, history logs, personal stuff etc that would be good.

But to appeal to a boarder audience and look more marketable the main page needs to be like what you have designed!

We need both worlds but the first page needs the face lift you've given it!

Thanks Karl, Bill, and Christopher for the comments...

Bill - that's duly noted, thanks... that's exactly my goal: not to take away the focus from the community. I know the events part is broken, so this is a fix (+ many bonuses). What I could do is take away the "Get Involved" box and title it "Community", then put the community links there such as the 1) main page, 2) art gallery, 3) forum, 4) artist profiles ...

Yes.. I will replace the turquoise... :)

Yes, the turquoise needs to go. Perhaps use a a different color scheme in the CSS? Browse over only?
