Arts and Cultural Information in Fresno City and County
Too much
OK, OK, I know... two posts in one night is too much. BUT - Kronos Quartet is playing Summer Arts. People. This is more than big. I have a list of five performers I want to see before I die. Elvis Costello is number one. Kronos is number five. Two thru four are a pipe dream. But Kronos is coming to Fresno! Get your damned tickets now - this is one of the most amazing things you will ever hear. Download their album "Nuevo" and you'll understand.
And while I'm on music - is anyone else going to Arte Americas on Friday nights? They won't be on again till August, but over the past two years the best music I've seen ANYWHERE has been on that little patch of park in Fresno. Doctor Loco played last Friday and I'm still hearing Venezuelan cumbias and loud, lamenting boleros. The Latin Jazz giants I've seen there over the last few years are something I'll be talking about when I'm old. Get a schedule - this is one of the most amazing art experiences you'll get in Fresno, and it's a great big secret for some reason.
Oh yeah, and they have FANTASTIC tacos. Fantastic.

Comment by James Gathright on July 26, 2008 at 8:17pm - Yeah - you missed something beyond special. My wife and I left wondering if we had just seen the greatest performance we would ever see. And they played Sigur Ros, and I love Sigur Ros. As a matter of fact, now that Kronos is no longer in my top five must-sees, I think I'll put Sigur Ros there.

Second, I read a great review by Donald Munro (which spurred my comment). Third, I just downloaded Nuevo through iTunes, and I'm loving the interaction of the instruments they play... *sigh... yet again.
