Art Consignment. Or Art "Rentals"? Same thing? Different? Anyone know how that works, what the general agreements are, how one charges for that, how it works, yada yada? I would appreciate any info or tips. You can reply here, or send me a message.

I need to get many of my larger reverse glass pieces hung in a longer term home for a couple months and was hoping something like that would work out.

Appreciate picking your brains! Thank you!

thanks for the info everyone. I was just curious. I am about to move and don't know where. But the likelyhood that I will have any space for my paintings is slim. Meanwhile, someone suggested that I try to rent them out to businesses. They had heard of that being done, but didn't have any other info.

Otherwise, I will just have to find some places that would be willing to hold/hang them for a few months until I can get back on my feet.

Thank you.

I have heard that the Fresno Art Museum has done this in the past. I guess that they had pieces hanging that businesses could go thru and decide which they wanted to rent. I'm not sure why they stopped doing that - maybe you could contact the museum and ask them. Or maybe this discussion will prompt someone to start a business doing that.

I think that it would be better if there is a non-profit agency (or a social enterprise) that could take on this task. Issues such as care of the art (insurance), valuation, curating, and many others are some that comes to mind. An individual artist, no matter how enterprising one is, would have a challenge undertaking this task... but I may be wrong. I don't see it scaling to the point that it's worth the effort.

Anyway, an organization like the Fresno Arts Council seems to be a fit. Although I know that FAC does not have the resource to take on any project/program at this point, unless it's funded by a grant that will pay for a program coordinator...

Good luck and if I come across any business model that has some resemblance to what you want to do, I will definitely share it here.

No, I don't know, but some real estate agencys stage homes, they should use more cool art, like from local artists. Huh. Maybe you could start a little business doing that? I am not sure. Renting art, well, I am not sure what would be fair to charge, but my friend did not have storage room for all his art, so he let certain people hang his art in their place. I think the more wealthy would want to do the renting thing, not sure. I just think the concept is really cool too.

Do you know of how much you would usually charge for renting vs. Selling a piece outright? Is it rent to own? After so many payments they just own it anyways? I don't want to look like an idiot. :)

I know someone that did this. It is pretty cool. Contact real estate agents. Maybe they could help you too.
