Hello everyone,
When I started FresnoArts.net over 5 years ago, I envisioned a connected community of artists in Central Valley where discussions and debate on how to make Fresno County thrive through the arts and culture industry.
Today, I would like to ask if someone (either an individual or organization) could take on the vision and shared responsibility with the Fresno Arts Council to operate and maintain this social network. It's with deep sadness that I have to pass on…

If you want to sell art two things matter "location, location, location," and exposure... oops that's four, oh well. Showing in NY, San Francisco, Chicago, Santa Fe or Scottsdale do not qualify as location but some locations (Galleries) in these cities do. A very select and talented few make it in "these" locations. Therefore the other option "exposure" is your best bet, if enough people see your stuff you'll find buyers and the more… Continue

“One in six Americans is food insecure. Even more shocking is that one in four children lives in a food-insecure household.” Given the current state of the economy, it is going to take a while for these numbers to decrease. Fresno State students taking Management 133, a nonprofit management course, are partnering with the Community Food Bank to raise… Continue

This is the 2nd award I have won this year with an abstract painting. I am really excited about this, although I don't think of myself as an abstract painter. I suppose because I do this type of art mostly for fun. This one "Lava Flow" won a 2nd place for me at the Swedish Fine Art Festival in Kingsburg. You can go to the gallery and see it there (as well as all the other fabulous art!). The gallery is open from 11:00 -- 3:00 M--S. The…

This site has been a very important part of my life for the last two years. It has taken me on a series of adventures and brought me peace, sacrifice and creativity. I will forever be grateful to this. I learned about this site because of two members, one has since passed, but his legacy lives on.
Artists need an outlet, one that does not judge.
Artists are unique human beings. We can not move forward without release, so thank you Victor, your vision for this site was incredible.

Christine de la Hofer and Laura Splotch from Crazy Moon will be my guests, along with Melanie Davis from Twee Boutique and Gallery to talk about the Artist Trading Card Swap (FREE - Saturday 4-24 2-4PM at Twee). Christine has an incredible collection of ATCs from around the world, and we want in on the fun. Did you know that over 70% of the items carried at Twee are handcrafted locally? Really really neat stuff.
Plus Maile Glover will be by to talk about AsianFest that is also…

Everyone,
We've launched a letter-writing campaign to try and bring the Farm Aid Concert to Fresno this year. We deserve it and our farmers need it! We're on their radar and have spoken to the organizers. Please check out our Facebook page, watch the video, put a letter in the mail, and pass this info on to as many people as you can (especially local farmers!).

The romanticized sweet baby Jesus in the manger Christmas makes us feel good, and the commercialized holiday season make our family and friends feel good when they open the many gifts addressed to them.
But the kingdom Message of Jesus transcends us, the righteous and the blessed- It reaches out to the disadvantaged among us. The real Christmas spirit is about righting wrongs, compassion for the needy among us, sharing our blessings and making level the playing field;…

Call to visual artists:
It's that time of year again. Volunteers and staff have been quietly ramping up for 2010's Rogue Festival. October 1st marked the day that applications were opened for artists and November 15th marks the day that applications close. If you or someone you know is interested in sharing their artistry with throngs of Fresnans, now is the time! Obviously, there are a limited number of spots available and they go on a first come, first served basis so don't delay!…

Hello everyone, I hope all is well. We are getting ready for an exciting moment for the Fresno Arts Council and that will be the unveiling of the new corporate website + a revamp of our centralized events calendar for the arts in Fresno County. Now you might ask why we are sharing this information. We do mainly for two reasons: first, to update you (the arts community) that we as an organization are progressively improving especially in presenting local arts information (both our artists and…

Saturday, I went to the F.A.M. and saw the most wonderful exhibit. Photography was much of it. I am a fan of Dorthea Lange, but I never knew who she was until recently, someone told me that I have a similar style as her, because of the photographs I have taken of the homeless and cancer survivors. I was curious.
I later found out, the photograph that I have always admired was taken by her, so even though I did not know the name of the photographer, I already knew her work. She really…

http://www.mlive.com/news/grand-rapids/index.ssf/2009/04/rick_devos_unveiling_500000_ar.html
I am wondering: is there hope that something like this could happen in Fresno?
Once in a while, we read about the lady next door who's suddenly donating millions of dollars to her…

Linda Lloyd Pitts, a most talented artist and kind friend, is in the hospital. She is very ill and in need of our prayers. Linda has been involved in so many art events through out our community, with her talents that simply are just so remarkable. She has won numerous awards, the most recent being, the recipient of the Chris Sorensen Choice Award, in the "Kiss This" event. Linda made an adorable cake painting that attracted the attention of everyone that came to the show. She has a…

Today is Thursday...the day before the very last day for submissions to the Fresno Art Museum. After I get off work today, I am off to pick up the frame for my painting. Tomorrow during my lunch, I will be hurrying to the museum to submit my piece. It is titled 'Andru's Pride'. It would be great if everyone could attend the reception and celebration on January 23rd from 5:00 to 7:00 at the museum. I have grand hopes that my piece passes the jurors and will get to hang in the museum. Keep your…
