Playing the blues is a great release. I am so grateful to my mentors, teachers and musical inspirations like BB King, Albert King, Clapton, Irving Berlin, Hoagy Carmichael, Mancini, Jerry Goldsmith, Bird, Coltrane, Mingus, Joni Mitchell and all.
My wife is six years into a fight against ovarian cancer. This tune started with a scat vocal over a guitar and the intention to write a lyric.
All I have come up with is a refrain: This is the last blues, my last blues for you. Come on, baby,… Continue

It is hard to imagine that just so close to us are human beings suffering this much.
My father, a pilot, a genious inventor, the most brilliant man I ever met went from a millionaire to a homeless bum. For many years he was stricken with alcoholism. But by the grace of God, he overcame his addiction and lived the remainder of his life to give back to those in need. He never forgot where he had been. He left this earth with grace and dignity. He… Continue

Last month, I got the chance to meet the owner of a contemporary art gallery and cafe in Ensenada during a brief stop-over on a 3-day cruise. His name is Memo Ramirez and his gallery cafe is aptly called Cafe Cafe
. I would like to share a couple of photos I have with him and his family. Of all the shops we visited, it's comforting that there is at least one that mixes art with retail business, especially amidst the many liquor… Continue

The first annual Kristkindlmarkt in Springville today was a raving success. The weather cooperated providing crisp air and clear skies and lots of visitors came by to enjoy the day's events. The event was the brain child of Dean Diaz de Leon and he along with Ron and John constructed the booths from reclaimed, weathered wood donated from various sources in the Springville area. I arrived early in the morning to set up my booth to display my handmade ceramics. I was surprised at how nice my… Continue

You're invited to the first Kristkindlmarkt in Springville, a holiday gathering of local artists and craftspeople on Saturday, December 6, Noonish to 8 p.m. in downtown Springville, CA
The Kristkindlmarkt is the brainstorm of metal sculptor, Dean Diaz de Leon, among others. Dean’s specialty is “found metal”. He finds historical metal, photographs it in situ in order to record its provenance, and then reshapes it into a work of art. Dean is hoping… Continue

In loving memory of Brent Brooks September 2, 1963 - October 9, 2008

Greetings to all of our dear member artists and arts enthusiasts. I know I have been kind of incognito lately, dropping in and out quite quickly... Well, I have to be honest that I was working on a pet project of mine; because I vowed to relaunch it already and take it off my back for a while.
Well that pet project is called Fresnojobs.org

someplace I've got a little bit of video footage of the Metropolitan Museum from 1995 when I volunteered there for the Laser exhibit. I know I have footage from the rooftop of the building looking around the downtown area after a rain and the sun came out, I'm wondering if I got any footage of the basement and all the storage down there I think I did. If I can find it I should edit it and post it to share if there is an interest.

It's been quite a year for me as an artist. Goals set and met and reset, shows hung, pieces completed, my portfolio finally in a book... and the list goes on. Hanging Nudes in November was a great experience... so much wonderful art to work with, and a great large space. This was my 2nd year hanging the show... hopefully I'll keep doing it. I also participated in a lot of shows this year. Quady, my solo show at La Luna Loca, the Pink show, Artists of the Studio at Chris', Sculpture by the Sea… Continue
