The Hmong New Year
is a three day family reunion that takes place in every Hmong home. It celebrates the completion of the rice-harvest; the years end and the beginning of a new cycle and New Year. During this celebration the wandering spirits of the family and the spirits of wealth are called home to be honored. A central part of the reunion is to “eat 30” or 10 dishes a day for 3 day s. In addition to the “30,”… Continue

Saying goodbye to a friend. A wall of death...
This photo was taken under the bridge on G st. The blankets are a part of the tent that houses one of Fresno's many homeless human beings. I was compelled to shoot this, it grabs me and makes me feel so much compassion for the obvious loss that someone… Continue

Well, here we are almost at the end of another year. I look back on my goals and though I wasn't able to take the art class I wanted (I was pretty disappointed) the trade off wasn't bad ..... we were too busy with our work schedule to allow for the time. Being busy isn't a bad thing. We are fortunate that our metal fabrication business is still chugging along in this slow economy. We are heading into our 7th year so nothing to complain about here! We have had some great commissions this year… Continue

I guess everyone realizes that this is a damn cold winter. I know how much it means to be warm. I visited some of my friends at their homes a few days ago. They agreed with me, it is really cold. I asked Reggie what he is doing to stay warm. He said, I crawl under all my blankets. "Once I get positioned just right and have the pile of blankets on me, then it is not too bad. It is cold though". I know Reggie was down playing it for my heart, but you know what, it is really cold. I am posting a… Continue

In societies of fear, like ours, people are discouraged from speaking their minds openly least they be persecuted by those in power. Usually its the artists who represent the aspirations of the oppressed. They speak through their art, between the lines of their texts and through subliminal images which only those who have eyes to see and ears to hear behold!
Obama receiving the Nobel PEACE prize today makes him histories biggest hypocrite. If he would have been…

Angels...call her out by her name...she talks to angels...they call her out by her name...call her out...don't you know that they call her out...by her name...

Thanks to the team that helped set up, and the 150+ of you who braved the mountain roads and limited parking to honor and celebrate Elfie’s life with him. Several people who listened to the speakers, told us that they got new insight into the wide range and duration of his work. It was a great gathering of our extended family of the heart and just the party we were hoping for. It has taken a few days to recuperate, but his energy remains good.
