Yesterday, Bill (Bosque) Redondo of Fresno, California, wrote: "I know quite a few artists who are really serious about marketing and selling their art. However, it seems like they are not aggressive enough and I wonder if that might be the reason for their lack of sales? Do artists need to 'wine and dine' potential customers or should they trust their art to sell itself?"
Thanks, Bosque. While selling is not the Holy Grail to many… Continue
So Why?
...because a beautiful cat was living on the property we bought in Clovis.
He was so handsome; so big; his beautifully sculpted head....I had to paint him.
His sides were dark, his middle was white. We named him Oreo.
But we always called him Obo or Cookie Man.
I learned his markings made him a Tuxedo Cat.
We had him for nine years - the vet thought he was about six when we found him.
His… Continue

Art Hop - August 6, 2009
Artwork from various guest artists will be on display in the main gallery starting August 6, Art Hop night through the last Friday of the month of August 2009.
Because of technicalities, the Graffiti show that was scheduled for this weekend July 24-26 at Sorensen's has been canceled. While there may be several artists (who already had flights to Fresno) throwing up some pieces the major show has been canceled. For the Chris Sorensen Studio, B
I am new to Fresno and so I have a BIG WISH LIST. This is what I wish for: I want to start or join a group that regularly goes to paint in "plein aire". I recently went up to the Sequoias and wanted to stop and paint and draw but there was this man who appeared to be following me....this was when I realized I need a buddy to use the buddy-system. As such, I want to see if others, anyone would like to go out and about early mornings, perhaps to paint, draw, etc.
I'm fortunate to be able to spend some time visiting my family in various locations this summer. The Denver and Boulder CO art scenes are pretty neat, with their own "arthop" on Friday nights. I got to visit the gallery in Denver that is hosting one of the juried shows advertised on our site (Abecedarian Gallery). The owner was really nice and the current exhibit looked great. I suggest looking into it. One of the other artists that I visited was working on a large public art piece for the City… Continue
Well, this post is probably for all of us artists who are going to be having ArtHops tomorrow night...
YE GADS, 107 ?!?!?.
I'm wondering if anyone in Fresno will be brave enough to venture out in that heat??
And why oh why does the heat wave have to hit on this particular Arthop night? "My night" as we are all thinking.
And for anyone who might try to answer this redundant question...I know the answer..I've lived in Fresno for gadzillion years and I know the… Continue
Yesterday, Mary Catherine Jorgensen of the East Bay in northern California wrote: "A side effect of being a self-employed artist is occasional loneliness. Not everyone works alongside other artists, and many of us work alone. The privilege of being able to choose between music, radio news, or silence, and between working early in the morning or starting at noon--in short, being one's own boss--has a… Continue

Well I'm back. I have missed the art scene. I have missed seeing friends. Nothing like a life changing illness to put a little perspective on everything. What a fantastic feeling to see your artwork up on walls again. It seems like it's been years. It's been months and months in my home, going nowhere, doing very very little. I still have a way to go, but I'm out, I can see people and walk around like a normal person. (..sort of ). And I'll be at my… Continue
Today being Sunday I thought of this question, (what is sin?) and decided to post my thoughts, if you would like to comment, please post yours. It is always interesting to hear the opinions of others.
This is my opinon, for what it is worth.
Sin is Inevitable . If you are alive, you will sin.
My birth name, Cynthia, means lover of the moon, and I do.
The moon and I go way back. But so do sin and I.
My family and friends have… Continue
As a painter... especially a BROKE one.... having access to pristine pretty canvas.. well, that's a beautiful dream. Usually it's more along the lines of gratefully salivating over hand-me-down old canvas that someone years ago already painted on, or other found materials like wood, board, your friends forehead.... whatever sticks...
Well, I am fortunate enough that my husband often runs into extra GLASS panels. Often in the form of someones old shower door... A little clean up and I… Continue
This is already posted under discusions, but I wanted to be sure it was seen by everyone. Hey, who said you can not have a little bit of fun once in a while! Check this out. The Pink Show is having it's annual ArtHop at Chris Sorensen's Gallery on October 1st, 2009. This is not to be confused with the benefit concert we are producing on October 3rd, but the proceeds are for the same purpose. There is much to do. This is the first year we have expanded… Continue
