Profile Information

About:
I am a figurative artist and printmaker and have done commercial public projects as well as performance. I was recently interviewed by Wallace Boss of the Muse, a new media magazine, www.ontheMuse.com, to discuss the "creative spark".
also, www.youtube.com/user/WallaceKBoss.

Member: California Contemporary Art Collective, Gallery 25, Printmakers Guild. Co
Arts Specialty:
GUNPOWDER DRAWING; My images are created by igniting gunpowder on paper. Cai Guo-Qiang is the father of this unique process of contemporary artistic expression. I first saw his work in D.C. in 2004. Not long after, I began my own exploration.
Before it is ignited, I lay out various gun powders in patterns and use stencils and masks. Parts of the pattern are compressed, creating more pressure and intensity of burn.
Once lit, there is a sequence of flares and small explosions. Flames and glowing edges are extinguished with damp rags. Smoke and a smell like spice are in the air above the new work. I may repeat parts of the process.
The few seconds of dangerous creation are recorded across the surface of the paper.

Local News Crew is scheduled to come to my studio today 9/10/09

I've been aware of at least one juvenile hawk, Coopers hawk, I think, in the neighborhood. I hear the high pitched skree, even at first light sometimes. Once Rene called and stood with her mouth open after seeing a hawk hit a sparrow in our yard.

I plan to do an image of a bird, hawk, Coopers or Sharp shinned hawk today by igniting gunpowder on paper. Maybe they'll film it for the Ch 26 evening news. Maybe they won't. I'm dong it either way.

Chocolate Cross Found Art

On the Easter Candy aisle, next to the peeps, and chocolate bunnies, and jelly beans, I noticed a chocolate cross. Amusing merge of organized religion and commercialism. When would one eat a cross made of milk chocolate? Maybe after some bread and wine when you felt like something sweet. Is it Art?
