The artwork presented consists of a technique called Rokoan Tsunagiori Origami created by Buddhist Priest Rokoan Gido (1761 to 1834), the eleventh chief priest of Choenji temple in the Kuwana district of Mie Prefecture. Rokoan Origami is unique in that a single sheet of Yuzen Origami paper is used to create the many small cranes (a symbol of good fortune) in each design. Throughout the folding process, each crane remains connected to one another by the head, tail and/or wings. Each piece of artwork is an original as the origami paper, hand painted backgrounds, and accents each bring their own unique qualities.
Andrea Jyunko Marjala began Art by Jyunko Marjala after settling in Auberry with her husband Sean and four boys in 2003. Developing her own unique designs based on the Rokoan style, she now offers her artwork at the Shaver Lake Art Gallery and local art shows alike. Many of her creations are inspired by the natural elements found in Japan such as the cherry blossom, chrysanthemum and the maple. She also incorporates motifs based on the Japanese family mon or family crest which stands for honor and represents the history of the Japanese family.
As a self-taught artist, Andrea's artwork is very unique and evolves with each piece. She has found it to be the perfect avenue to creatively express her love for art while incorporating her Japanese heritage. Andrea has been featured in several Central Valley newspapers including the Fresno Bee, Mountain Press and Snowline Times. Recently, she has won two consecutive second place ribbons at the Fresno County Fair for Advanced Artist in the Fine Arts - Fiber Art category.
Thank you for taking the time to enjoy her artwork.

I always ask myself why am I so attracted to Japenese art whether it be paintings ,woodblock ,oragami,or even the art of landscape,And the answer is it bathes me in the sweet unconsciousness of a mellow spirtiual light. It is so tranquil. Welcome ,Andy Gonzales
