Art was originally part of culture in a holistic fashion, it served the spiritual ever invasive aspect of humanity. With the advent of Modernism (worship of the head, reason & science) it became divorced from life and objectified. Creativity is stil…

Gerone, I like this idea of the differences between modernism and post modernism being perceptions. I think if you look at any movement it can be traced back to what was happening in society and how artists were reflecting on it, maybe we won't ever…

Title: FREEDOM
Soapstone
2008 1 of 1. 4"wx4"hx1-3/4"d. Female figure with long flowing hair and a strong jaw of determination with a large bird morphing from her left hand. She evokes a vision of protector of natural life and the embodiment of freedom. The sculpture represents the releasing of creative forces from self for the enrichment of others, by sharing. Beauty is pulled not only from God's stone, but of heart and mind as well. Thus emerges a thought form such as 'FREEDOM'. Donated by artist Rosemary Lakovich to the Fresno Art Museum for the ' Small Treasure' show December 2008. Acquired by fine art patrons Mr.& Mrs. Martin,Marianne Weil.

Hi Rosemary! Yes, I am excited about the symposium - though its not set in stone - an invitation only at this point. They haven't made their decisions yet about September, I have just submitted my information, etc., and after they are done with the April symposium, I am sure I will find out one way or the other. Either way it is good to be considered! :) We got to go down last year for part of one day - it looks like a very cool thing and a great location! I didn't even know that was over on the other side of the highway! I love Cambria! Thanks for your friend request - talk to you soon!

It was great seeing you and John last night.

I communicated with Herb when I got home and he's going to come to our open mic on March 11. He'll be featured with a 35-40 min set.

Thanks! Yeah the Indian style hoop dance is really incredible I've seen a few performances. But the style I do comes from a circus arts background (although a lot of the male hoopers in the bay area have a style that's more closely related to the Indian style).

Hi Rosemary, Thanks for the warm welcome and the interest. We have gotten lots of feedback from folks who were unable to attend and are asking about other dates, so we are planning to open the doors one day this weekend and would love it if you made it up for the visit. I should know tomorrow what the date (probably Sunday) and time is. If it doesn't work out for you, we can always make an appointment for you to visit! Thanks again, Karen
