I am a self-trained artist and illustrator. I grew up in San Francisco and have been working as a fine artist and illustrator since 1970. In 1997, my wife, author Susan Yost-Filgate, and I began to create the world of RIP SQUEAK®, a children's series of books and art. As an illustrator, my greatest accomplishments have included a solo major exhibition at the Delaware Art Museum in Wilmington, Delaware, being featured illustrator for the 2003 Los Angeles Times Festival of Books, winning two IPPY Awards for children's books, having my illustrations included in the "Every Picture Tells a Story" traveling exhibition curated by the Simon Wiesenthal Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles, and my nomination as an artist member of the New York Society of Illustrators. Four years ago, I moved to Fresno with my family and am happily residing in an older Tower District home.

Hi Leonard: I met your wife at Sorensens Studio at an artists meeting. I love the work. I bought a book. Please keep me informed of shows in the area and please post for all of us struggling artists to learn from your successes. Thanks for being a part of Fresno Arts Web. Ann Stewart
Hello Leonard,
Your artwork is amazing and now I want to find the children books you have illustrated for. What an amazing gift and skill!
Keep me informed if you ever have a show around Fresno.
Thanks so much~ look forward to the future meets.

Leonard, Thanks for writing to me - I loved your comments about opera and art - especially the Wagnerian - reminding me of Castles like Neuschwanstein near Munich whose most distinctive feature may have been that it was designed to be a stage for Wagner’s operas - murals all over the ceilings and walls - I would love to see your intepretations - Based on your website, I know they would be great! We run an annual young artists Wagner program by the way - Looking forward to sharing - Diane @ COA
Greetings Linda. Thanks for the compliments. The "good looking friend" is an iguana we met when roaming around Mismaloya, south of Puerto Vallarta-- perhaps the subject of a future story?
