I remember the patchwork quilt stage fondly Cynthia - you weren't the only one who thought it looked like that. It was so bizarre seeing the insides of the walls, the colors we forgot we used, etc. And now...well...

You know, I could say a lot here, but I won't. Personally I've given nearly a decade of my life to the Fresno arts community. That has been rewarding to me. I had typed three more paragraphs and I'm not going to share them. It's counterproductive.…

So you know, we've never charged a premium for a specific exhibition. You've probably encountered that elsewhere, but not at the Met. We do have events that have a premium ticket price, but not exhibitions. Thanks for the feedback. It's far from "t…

Some clarification is in order. First, the City of Fresno owns the Museum's building, not the Museum. Two totally different things. Second, the Met has been asking the community since the beginning what it wants to see. Most recently here, here an…

Goodbye from the Met

Dear Met Supporters and Friends,

A Museum is an exercise in hope. The impact that the arts play in the lives of the people that they touch and the experiences and memories that they create are life-long. Museums change people and communities over generations. While we may never know what caused the creative spark in a child during a museum visit we can see the fire of innovation, change and growth in our community that it ignited.

Your support has helped to keep this hope alive and burning in… Continue

You're very welcome John. Thank you for taking the time to my short blog post.

In these times financial priorities must be made. It saddens me, ironically as a conservative, that a decades-long, failing zoo can be rescued by voter initiative but our greatest cultural institution cannot. It will pain many of us, we who are not as vocal as a minority of quasi-radical detractors, that this is even occurring. Any claim that the MET has been some sort of indoctrinating social machine is fictitious, erroneous and absolute nonsense. Those who seek attention and risk printing such slander are simply (and obviously) ignorant to the diversity and opportunity any such organization can, and has brought consistently to the Central Valley.

The MET has always and will always have a special place in my and my family's heart. I have found great satisfaction as a practicing artist but also as a parent. My wife has special memories of the institution from her childhood as a native Fresnan and my children were always ready to visit it (unlike most other venues downtown). We've had great experiences for very little cost and we always made sure to donate what little we could even on those special and free Thursdays.

I have always recognized the MET's importance as a cultural foundation for the city's local art scene and remember when Gallery 25 literally hovered in its shadow for many years. Not since the historical recognition of Judy Chicago's special studio downtown has there been a place so important to the arts in Fresno, and by extension, the entire valley. I have and always will appreciate the work from silent partners, the city, the board of directors, people like you, down to the volunteer docents who have brought to us so very much in terms of art and education.

Please send this to anyone there, so they know without doubt, their work was never void of value or purpose and it has been cherished - and always will be - by those intelligent enough to recognize it.

John,

I will pass by today to drop off the documents for the Fresno Arts Festival; I'll just drop it on the front counter.

Thanks.

Thanks for such a fast, intellegent response to a poorly thought out blog question. We have an active, increasing cultural spirit in our valley. It take all kinds of venues to accomodate the diversity. I think the Met does a great job with it's exhibitions. - Karl Kallmann
