Jo Anne learned the rules of photography at San Jose State University, and continues to break them. She experiments in the darkroom, sometimes making her own negatives. She stages and photographs pop portraits, which are paper cut-outs from drawings, and mixes them with pretty papers and trims.
Her influences include Tim Burton, Camille Rose Garcia and other pop surrealist artists, ghouls and haunted houses, tattoo art, and rockabilly music.
Arts Specialty:
photography, collage, alternative processes in photography, mixed media, acrylic paint
Jo Anne: Is that a self portrait against the pink floral background? The contrast of the cutout black and white image against the color is very effective. Looks like a puppet show or stage set. It also reminds me of classic comic strip art, but with a contemporary feeling to it. Doug
