If you are posting events, the following tips will ensure that your events get posted properly to provide you the maximum exposure to your audience.
1. Title: provide an engaging title for site visitors to click. Use your event title (e.g. Best of Fresno Music Festival) or a descriptive title (e.g. "A Romantic Musical Evening with Classics"). Refrain from using "ArtHop" in your title, if your event falls on ArtHop and have multiple dates. Choose a different title instead (e.g. Artist and the artwork series).
2. Thumbnail Photo/Graphics: For site layout purposes, we need you to provide a photo for the event that will show alongside the events summary on the top of the page. Ideally, the large thumbnail photo would be 180px x 180px. Also, this would not show up on the body of the event. Please upload your larger image again to inform your audience.
3. Description: You've already taken the time to post your event. Take it a step further by providing compelling descriptions about your event. Remember you are competing with the other events that are not only posted in this website, but those that are advertised in the newspaper, other sites, and tv/radio as well.
To maximize the effect of your announcement, post an image here as well.
4. Event Type: It is required that you post your events using the given Event Type (e.g. arthop, "visual arts").
Make sure you include the quotation marks when you are typing multi-word event type. If you are posting events that could be both "visual arts" and "theatre and film", use a comma to separate them. As a general guideline, please use the following "Event Type" keywords (case sensitive) to categorize your events:
- arthop - for ArtHop events. This keyword is used only by official ArtHop venues.
- "visual arts" - use for visual arts and museum exhibits. Visual arts includes painting, photography, ceramics, glass art, sculpture, architecture, etc...
- "theatre and film" - use for performing arts (theatre) and films which are artistic in nature.
- "music and dance" - use for concerts and musical performances like the Opera, Jazz concerts, and small venue band shows; also for dance-related performances like the ballet, breakdancing, ballroom, and folk dances.
- "folk arts" - use for Traditional and Folk Arts events. These events are most often tied to a particular culture (like Celtic arts, Hmong arts, etc...).
- "public art" - use for events that are performed in public spaces (e.g. breakdancing in public, concerts at the park, street art, unveiling of a sculpture, lecture on public art, murals, etc...).
- "spoken word" - use for events involving poetry, comedy, lecture series, and book reading.
- "lecture and workshops" - use for events involving lecture series, art classes, and any type of workshops.
- "outdoor and festivals" - use for outdoor and festival events, like the GreekFest, Barrio Fiesta, flea and farmers market, concerts at the park...
- "community and special" - use for community-based and special events which do not necessarily belong to any categories above. Community-based events include meetings, PARCS-sponsored events, non-profit organization fundraising events, etc... Special events are those events that do not have its own category, which could include Healing Arts, Culinary Arts, Martial Arts, Science and History, etc...
- "kids and families" - use for events that are family-oriented or are kid-friendly.
- free - use for events that are "free" (no admission charge).
5. Date and Time: Your date/time will determine the order in which your event is posted. If you do not provide an end time, your event will only be posted on the date you provide.
By providing an end time, you let the system know that your event is a multi-date event and will be posted as such. However, bear in mind that the maximum allowable days to publish your event is 14 days. We've place this limitation to avoid abuses to the events promotion system (to get around this: revisit your event posting right before the end date and edit the dates again).
For ArtHop events posters: if your event is an ArtHop and a show as well, you could enter multiple types on the "Event Type" field (e.g. arthop, "visual arts", "theatre and film"). If your event has multiple dates, which also include ArtHop, enter an "end date/time" to your event and enter multiple types as well. This will ensure that your events are included in the proper categories and not just ArtHop.
Note: If your event has multiple types, including ArtHop, and the ArtHop date has passed, our editors will edit your event to exclude the keyword "ArtHop" from your event type, so that we do not confuse our website visitors.
6. Website Address: Provide a website address for the event if you have more information on a separate site (eg. parking information, etc...). This will help your audience decide whether to go or not.
IMPORTANT:
Only events happening inside Fresno County (and unincorporated areas) are allowed to be posted.
If you post event(s) that is happening outside of Fresno County, even if you are a Fresno-based artist,
your event will be deleted. We would like to keep the events focused on Fresno County only. Please feel free to blog about it or post it in the forum, so you could inform our community.
